Update on the state of affairs in Bayern

Yesterday it was announced that more Lockerungen (easings) of the Coronavirus 'lockdown' (such as it has been here) will take place.

For the gastronomy, the straightfoward decision to allow restaurants & beer gardens (i.e. those already permitted to open) to open until 23.00 (from 22.00) from Monday. It also allows for groups of up to 10 people to meet (from 10 different households in principle). I think the second point is more important than the first for businesses as most regulars don't go with their wives but go to meet their friends. It is also permitted to have private gatherings of 50 people inside and 100 people outside, so weddings etc are now allowed. As are choirs, though I find this odd as singing inside is almost as risky as being in a bar (maybe more so). You still have to register when entering premises (name, address/phone number). A warning app has been released nationwide to inform you if you've been around infected people - this is only as good as the number of downloads.

There is still some clairty needed... I had a very enjoyable evening playing cards at Greifenklau tonight and we booked again for next week and suggested to the owner that we can play for an hour longer - his answer was that we'll have to see. No one wants a fine of 5.000 Euros (i've heard of a couple).

Speaking of bars/non-restaurants, there is still a concept for opening being worked on. As said to one or two of you, I miss Rotenschild like nobody's business, but I think this has to be done right both in the manner and timing. There will likely be time slots allocated by reservation only, and sitting at the bar won't be allowed I don't think. Clubs will have to wait longer, possibly until a vaccine is found or the numbers are so low that it's almost risk free. Bamberg Stadt has had no new infections in the last 7 days and is, I guess, Corona free.

The ban on big events has been pushed back until end of October and I wouldn't bet against this being extended again, until a vaccine has been found/the virus beaten. There will be no Bockbieranstiche in 2020 (not official after October but self evident). But, in the last couple of weeks i've noticed that more people are coming out and places are filling up again, albeit with much reduced capacity. One place that never ceases to amaze me is Doerfliens - they have a real loyal follwoing there, testament to the quality of the place. Build it, and they will come.

I'm still none the wiser on tourism from countries where the situation is worse than here. Personally I'm against it, but the tourism industry has to have some solace. But this virus isn't something you can 'beat', you have to destroy it. All it takes is 1 person in a crowded place...

I hope there is equally good news around the globe i.e. reduced infection rates and slow re-opening. I'm hearing mixed messages from the UK and US but as I don't live there i'll allow others to comment if they wish.
