Gassy Pils

Sorry, Barry, but brewers never "remov(e) the natural gases, leaving a sterile liquid that would last a long time and could be 'revived' by adding gas at the dispense. "  Added CO2 was developed to replace the natural loss of gas in a beer as it was transported (longer distances) and as it was served.  CO2 is somewhat of a preservative, as it replaces oxygen, and so no brewer would completely remove it from a beer on purpose.
