Ehingen (Donau): and you think the opening times in Franken are bad

Yes, it's about a different attitude, specially in pubs where food is as important as beer, which I suppose is most. AFAIK, there's still no real equivalent CAMRA in Germany, which tells us a little about difference in attitudes. I once spent a very instructive Friday afternoon in the garden at Greif (the beer was as excellent as ever and the sun was shining) watching car after car load up with crates for the weekend. You could replicate that at most breweries and Trinktmarkts. One thing though: if you consider other consumer orientated businesses, such as bakeries, pharmacies, etc., They are, in my experience, very precise about opening/closing times - pubs seem to be the exception. Mind you, Ive had some weird experiences with Fewo's not responding, and been lucky that Nick & Jason have helped me out a few times. I'm now enjoying the lovely sun in Malaga - between glasses of vino tinto, this afternoon I visited a craft beer bar (Mappamundi), small but beautifully formed, you might say, and the Westmalle at €4 a throw was excellent, as the owner agreed!
