Yes, the Franken Merkendorf is about 12 kms east of Bamberg. You can access it via the 927 (look on old postings for details of a round trip involving Memmelsdorf, possibly Goller in Drosendorf and Knoblach in Schammelsdorf. But the 927 is a bit infrequent, so just take the 907 to Drosendorf and walk from there - takes about 20 minutes to walk and is a bit easier (less hils) than the walk from Memmelsdorf.
