Was there Friday, saw Gerhard briefly, and spent a few hours with Paul Bailey and Jonas from r8beer. IIRC, Gerhard pronounced the Czech/Franconian collaboration beer from Ellingen the best of the fest. It was certainly lovely, but the best I encountered was the Uehlfelder Vollbier from Zwanger, although it was also the first beer after a sweaty hour's bike ride thither. Just perfectly balanced and full of character.

It turns out that the Braumeister there is new, or at least new since I've been to the brewery, 8 years ago. The last couple of years, he's begun to brew 500 litre batches of special monthly beers, primarily experimenting with hops. But also in the last year, with different sorts of beer, including two at the fest: a beer-mix with honey, and Uehfelder Alt: yes, an Altbier (very dark & roasty) fermented with *Nottingham* yeast and kept to a respectable 4.7% ABV. And the dryhopped (Equinox) E-Bombe was impressive, and very well hopped.

The Ellinger Braumeister is a friendly chap, especially for a nobleman!

Weißenohe Altfränkisch (?) direct from Bauchfass (bayerisch Anstich) was also lovely. They can brew some exceptionally good beer.

So I spent about 5 hours there and it was lovely. Highly recommended for those wanting to explore more far-flung Franconian breweries.
