"Freudeneck was a trifle disappointing, nice place but the Keller-bier was only so-so, not much character and way too 'fizzy'.  However, Hoefen was delightful, a really beautifully prepared beer. "

Exactly my experience with both places.  Although I thought the walk was nice especially the way back when we took the path along the river.

"We tried the Goerchla in the pub garden first before moving a few hundred metres up the hill.  To my mind, the beer in the pub was much better, less carbonated and more naturally tasty.  I suspect that the beer in the keller had been given a shot of CO2 to keep it lively"

My only experience with the Hohn beer was at the keller last year and it was not a good one.  I really like the keller itself but the beer that day was crap we thought.  All 5 of us poured it out on the ground.  But then I hear good things about the beer at the pub so I will have to go there to try again.

Glad to hear you made it to Pferdsfeld.  It's one of my favorites.

BTW your posts and Fred's on Facebook are allowing me to live vicariously and are making me miss the place.  But I'm holding out for bock bier season this fall.
