The Karmelit monkeys are in Bamberg since 1273. 1589 they have changed their location to the church and buildings of St. Theodor at the Kaulberg, which has been before a female monastery. The account of the monks grew from 6 or 7 to near 30 (now they are 7?).

1802 the ownership has changed to the city of Bamberg ("Säkularisasation"; secularization) together with other buildings p.e. the monastery St. Michaelsberg): In the year 1902 the city of Bamberg have sold the buildings back to the monastery.

In the bad years (inflation etc., world economic crisis around 1930) they have had a soup kitchen for poor people (around 100 meals per day).

1941 the nazis closed the monastery boarding school.

After the second world war a school for priests was opened ("Theresanium"). 2008 they  closed a part of the boarding school "Merianum" and leased it as a hotel.

Actual the monastery have 17 monks. They work in the administration for other locations, help the local churchs or spend their twilight.
