Hi Mark Sorry to hear that you won't be around for C/mo.  Love to meet in Dublin but we are in Drosendorf at that time, enjoying the delights of Franconia.

Just returned from weekend in Dublin.  Took in the Black Sheep on Capel Street last Friday (I see that April 10 is a Friday).  We got in about 10 pm and it was incredibly busy and incredibly noisy!  Quietened down around 11 pm, as the kids headed for nightlife.  Me and my party doubled the average age of the clientele.

The beer was pretty fair: a couple pf pints of Metalman Pale Ale bracketed the evening's drinking (very drinkable, not too acidic); sandwiched between were a pint of Trouble Brewing Deception (described as Golden ale (ok but nothing special) and similar of Galway Bay's Trouble at Sea (a chocolatey porter - quite fair).  One friend had the latter in both cask and keg versions - not surprisingly, as a Guinness and lager (not together) drinker, he preferred the keg version.  In a chat with the barman (when things quietened down a bit), I was told that the Black Sheep sold more cask ale than any other pub in Dublin.

I would certainly give it a go but maybe aim to head there early in the evening or during the day; the same probably applies to L. Mulligan (Grocer), which was very busy last time we visited on a Friday night.  Price of a pint (of course, only cask ales were sampled) between €5.25 and €6.00.

Brew Dock on Amiens St is also a Galway Bay Brewery pub, like the Black Sheep.  It's much smaller and not in the nicest bit of town.  On our only visit, there was no cask ale, so I'd give it a miss.  We liked W. J. Kavanagh on Dorset St but haven't been there since re-opening.
