RateBeer Best Awards

It is a different culture in the US, and that influences ratebeer I'm sure. My "local" (The Daily Pint in Santa Monica) has nearly 40 taps. The owner is British and it atarted out as an ex-Pat bar, so maybe 10 of those are things you'd find in a similar bar (Boddingtons, Guinness, Stella, Old Speckled Hen, etc). The rest are US "craft" beers, Belgian and the odd decent German beers.

Of the places in the states where I regularly drink beer most have 20+ taps -- even the upscale burger places around here have 10+ taps.

As for the culture part, when I'm in the US (or UK, Belgium or Netherlands for that matter) I rarely drink the same beer twice. But in when I'm Germany that is the rule -- and it generally doesn't bother me. Part of that is the difference in the beers themselves -- the US ones tend to be higher bodied and higher alcohol than the German beers I drink.

We have a bunch of "People's Choice" awards here, for movies, songs, TV shows, etc. I view them in the same way as I do ratebeer -- one further piece of information but not one that will trump a recommendation from a known source (or personal experience :)  )
