| ... would be quite large. Franconia is no exception. The German domestic beer market's consumption peaked several years ago. A list like this would also be difficult to compile simply because many of these breweries are small privately-owned enterprises (often family-owned) so financial results are shared only with the tax authorities and lending institutions. The trend in Germany continues: market maturity, consolidation creating the likes of the Radeberger Group which shut down lots of breweries everywhere, while marketing-oriented smaller operations make well-timed investments in equipment and learn to do what it takes to appeal to a wider market. Not everyone has succeeded, and there will continue to be shutdowns and consolidation for some time to come. You might as well put nearly *every* brewer in Germany on an "at risk" list. You wouldn't necessarily be completely wrong. |
