Schanzenbraeu, Nuremberg

What I've read is that when the Anglos, Saxons and Jutes took over territory, the native speech was nearly completely obliterated. Hence, there are only a dozen or two original Celtic words left in English, and these all have to do with describing particular landscape features. And Latin was likewise lost, though most Britons spoke none of it anyway.
