Festbier

Saw an article in the local paper last week about the price of this year's Festbier(s). It started out promisingly enough with a bit about Festbier brewing day at Döbl (?) in Bad Windesheim (?), and how he does the "old-fashioned" first-wort hopping (Vorderwürzehopfung) with his Festbier. The Kirchweih there is in August, and the price will be 5,80€ per Mass. Then of COURSE it had to go on and on about how shocking it is to expect to pay over 9€ at the little do in München in September, and they even failed to mention how miserable the beer is compared to the average Franconian Festbier. Then the Bergkirchweih here in Erlangen (currently running, we might bother with strolling up there once or twice on an afternoon, or then we might not--the second largest Volksfest in the nation after the Ofest!) is at the same price as last year: 7,50€. This is the second or third year of a "gentleman's agreement" to keep the price fixed for three years. So that's nice, but then most of the beer is generally of the Ofest-style, undrinkably sweet, alcohol-delivery-vehicle sort (Kitzmann, Tucher), though I do like a Mönschshof well enough (they do a special recipe for "the Berg") and the Steinbach is not *so* nasty that you can't manage a Mass between two people. And the big news...no one's really sure yet what the prices will be like at the Annafest. I'll go as often as possible as usual regardless.
