Cucumbers: what are the recommendations?
Posted by barry on 2011-06-06 05:17:27
Some years ago, I ordered French onion soup in a restaurant in Ireland. I carefully checked if there was any meat and was assured that there wasn't. When it came, there where pieces of meat floating around in it. When pointed out to the waitress, she said 'Sure, it's only a bit of chicken!'. Much the same thing also happened in the Burlington Hotel in Dublin, which, at the time, was reputed to be one of Ireland's best. Fortunately, things have improved a bit since. Germany remains not one of the best places for a vegetarian, although the stube in Eshawo do a nice line in brotzeit, with various cheese dishes. The situation on EHEC remains unclear. The source of the infection may be bean (and other) sprouts but tests are proving inconclusive. The general advice is not to eat salad vegetables but who can say whether they have been in contact with other foods? Liquid bread seems ok. Incidentally, dgs, there is a flaw in your practice of peeling cucumbers - think about it!
