A few days in Franconian Switzerland

My trip this year was good though the timing during the Brau in Nurnberg added something and took something away. Many/most of the brewers were at the trade show, but it alos meant lots of friends were around as well. I made it to 34 breweries this trip most of them south of Bamberg and north of Forchheim. I used the Boris Braun book as a primary reference guide and the GBG to Germany as my backup. Other locations were via this website. The beer overall was good though not many beers stood out either. The house beer at Penning Zessler 'hetzi' was good as was the vollbier at Barth Senger. A few others proved good. Ruhetag still proves to be a daunting thing to plan around and finding places closed when they should be open is common. All said and done the area is a beer drinking bargain. Compared to the Munich area beer prices in the Bamberg vicinity are half the money. Cheers! Todd A
