Fränkisches Pils

I give up. Why *would* you bother with Jever, for example? I think I'll head out to Aufsess this year. Mind you, Keesmann's "Herren Pils" isn't terrible either, especially in the beer garden out back on a fine summer's day. More Research Is Required. Sorta OT: Given what Oetker/Brau und Brunnen is doing to all its other beers and breweries, I don't hold out much hope for the likes of Jever. Brewery closures, consolidations, and rampant cost-cutting is going to have an effect, and it won't be pretty. Even Franconia hasn't escaped the brewery-gutting scythe wielded by Oetker/B.u.B.; there was a time when Tucher, Patrizier, Lederer, and Zirndorfer were all different competing brewers. Now it's all one megabrewer (at 1,2 Million hl/annum, yes). Good thing there are still a lot of those small breweries out in the Upper Franconian hinterlands, even as they, too, slowly diminish in number. Last year it was Seelmann and Lamm in the Steigerwald. Who else? Who's not going to make it through 2006? Apologies for the pessimism. I promise to come to Franconia in October and support a few local breweries, okay?
