Film „Aus Tradition Neues - Bierstadt Bamberg“

Hi John - that's why I always kept away from the North-East!  Strangely, I attended a conference in Newcastle once and went on a tour of the brewery (specially arranged by someone who worked there).  We drank some really great real ale that wasn't generally available in the region.  Most curious.

Joking aside, I can quite understand your viewpoint but, as a Mancunian, I was used to a really great range of mild and bitter from the local breweries and, in recent years, most of it in pretty decent condition.  I'm not against micros, in fact, I'm all for them, but it does get very confusing.  For example, the Briton's Protection in Manchester was a Tetley's house, hand-pulled mild and bitter always available.  When I went in last year, it had become some kind of freehouse with about ten handpumps on display, all from micros and none of them bearing any simple labels.  I suppose that most of them would have been variations on bitter (or modern IPA's) and it was quite interesting to try a few but I would much prefer if they had been labelled with their beer type, rather than some gimmicky name.  Also, as I said earlier, there seems to be a tendency for micros to try new brews - commendable in some ways but shouldn't they perfect the ones they have?

Not complaining, just making a point!
